Research has revealed rapidly rising salaries for those moving into new job roles. According to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), employers are paying new starters more in an attempt to “attract the right people”.
The salaries for employees moving into new permanent roles have seen the fastest rise for three years in May. An increase has also been observed in salaries for new members of staff in temporary roles. However, the data has also revealed a continued fall in the number of suitable candidates available for such roles.
REC policy director, Tom Hadley, reported that a lack of candidates remained a serious challenge for recruiters in nursing, manufacturing, IT and engineering sectors. He also commented that employers should seriously consider finding other ways to attract suitable candidates such as providing better progression opportunities and creating more flexible working environments.
