Premier League clubs reported a record revenue of £4.5 billion in the 2016–17 season. According to Deloitte, Premier League clubs also reported a record £500 million in pre-tax profit loss in the 2015-16 season. Additional Premier League 2016-17 numbers can be seen below:
- Wage costs: £2.5 billion
- Other operating costs: £1 billion
- Operating profit: £1 billion
- Net player trading costs: £400 million
- Other costs: £100 million
- All 20 clubs made an operating profit
- 18 out of the 20 clubs made a pre-tax profit
A major factor in revenue growth is the Premier League’s three-year TV which came into effect in the 2016-17 season. Additionally, a record £5.3 billion was paid to the Premier League by Sky and BT for 2016-19 broadcast rights. The latest domestic rights auction for the 2019-22 cycle will bring in £4.464 billion for the leagues 20 clubs.
