Steve has kindly asked me to contribute to this blog and I’m delighted to do so. Through our own membership of the Professional Contractors’ Group, now IPSE (Knowles Warwick is also a member, as many readers of this feed know); I had the pleasure of meeting with Steve recently at the Sheffield office. He in turn has paid us a visit at our Manchester head office and we’ve started to assist clients of the firm with matters of an insurance nature.

I suppose it’d be a useful starting point to let you know who we are and what we do!

Caunce O’Hara is a firm of chartered insurance brokers based in Manchester and Aberdeen. We’ve been advising businesses like yours for over eighteen years and have won national and regional accolades for e-commerce and commercial insurance broking services. We have a team of forty based in the heart of Manchester’s city centre and have an office at a firm of chartered accountants in Aberdeen, as we advise contract workers, oil and gas professionals and SMEs in North East Scotland.

Since 1996 we’ve been offering freelance professionals the ability to acquire liability insurance online. The firm is known nationally for its prowess in the professional indemnity insurance field insuring thousands of freelancers in hundreds of occupations. In 1997 that innovation was rewarded with a national insurance industry award. It’s not just online where we’ve made our name – the commercial insurance division handles clients whose turnover is typically £2m to £100m and our skills and credibility were noted with NW awards granted by the Chartered Insurance Institute in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

We’ve a highly qualified, dedicated and friendly team who are here to guide you through the insurance maze. We’d like to hear from you – we’re here to help.

I’m Adrian Stewart, Business Development Manager at Caunce O’Hara and will be penning topical news over the coming weeks. I trust you’ll enjoy my missives which will aim to demystify our profession and answer questions you and your business need to know on the subject of insurance and risk management.
